Medical Records Specialist Part Time Jacksonville

Job Summary:

The Medical Records Specialist is responsible to oversee and monitor the participant file known as the Medical Record. This is a part time position working approximately 20 hours per week.

Credentials, Skills, Abilities, and Experience:

  • Must be able to follow direction and work independently in completion of projects with minimal direction.
  • A high school or GED diploma and two years office or clerical experience, or technical diploma, or Associates Degree.
  • Fulfill credentialing requirements per agency policy.
  • Possess good communication skills both written and oral.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in use of computer. Prefer use of Microsoft Office, SharePoint and database programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain participant files according to agency policies, contract and funder’s requirements, Joint Commission, Medicaid and HIPAA required as well as pertinent additional regulations.Enter the Functions here. Click to add another
  • Responsible for establishing the Participant File and the accurate, timely integration of documents in the chart.
  • Review and file accordingly in Participant File, all information pertinent to the care of the participant.
  • Coordinate all requests for charts and participant information in maintaining the confidentiality, security, and integrity of the Medical Records.
  • Perform reviews of Medical Records as per the quality management schedule.
  • Follow-up with the staff and supervisors to ensure that quality standards are maintained.
  • Identify and document problems and provide follow-up to staff and monitor timely completion of corrective action.

Performance Standards:

  • Maintain complete and accurate files.
  • Ensure timely response of requests for information from participant files.
  • Ensure all requests for participant files have met criteria of completing Release of Information/Authorization.
  • Effectively collaborate with lines of services to audit charts and identify delinquencies and corrective action in a timely manner.
  • Improve functions of the Management Information System as it pertains to Medical Records to ensure improvements through the CQI process.
  • Promote a positive image of Volunteers of America of Florida.
  • Maintain compliance with regulations, funders, and agency policy.
  • Maintain the participant files in the Medical Records area to uphold the integrity, security, and confidential nature of its contents.

Normal Working Hours and Conditions:

  • Approximately 24 hours per week as negotiated and scheduled.
  • Occasional weekend or evening as required.
  • Some travel may be required.

Rate of Pay:
This is an hourly position with an entry level rate of 12.53 per hour.
